Buster Williams "Something More" Quartet

Yesterday I met the biggest of the jazz music Buster Williams, Lenny White, Bennie Maupin and Georg Cooligan. As I said to Mr Williams, the quartet played "surfing the groove", with a fantastic selection of jazz music played with supremacy. The fact is that they play speacking a language between them, and they tell to eachother things that we can hear, but we can't enjoy as the do. I don't know if you understan what I mean.
Yesterday I did the photographs and today the selections of the best shots. For some of them I did some digital retouches just to take off some guys in the back of the piano player.
I do not want to write more on this concert, just 'cause I'm at the end of the day and of the week, and I want only to get my poor eyes!

Carl Verheyen Trio

As usual in the last months I'm always busy for my work and my engagements. But really I want to mantain this blog alive and I will do everything for doing it!

Carl Verheyen Trio.
Carl Verheyen: guitar and voice
Dave Marotta: bass
Walfredo Reyes Jr.: drums

Carl Verheyen was one of the guitarists of the Supertramp, and he signed the soundtrack of "The Crow" movie, Dave Marotta played with Manhattan Transfer, Phil Collins, Burt Bacharach and Walfredo Reyes with Santana, Steve Winwood, Jackson Brown.

I met them two weeks ago in the Auditorium of Casa della Musica in Trieste. They are actually touring Europe presenting the new album of Carl Verheyen Band. All of them are very interesting persons. The one who hit me more than the others is Mister Walfredo Reyes Jr., the BIG Walfredo. Obviously this is 'cause I'm a drummer and I have a certain feeling when I'm in contact with musicians like him.
The Auditorium where they played is a little room, but here the musicians can play for the true fans, in a familiar atmosphere. And they did!
I met them in the backstage before the concert, when they were relaxing after a dinner into a restaurant of traditional Napolitan food. I asked myself why give them a traditional dish from Naples when in the North East of Italy we have more tasteful dishes than them, but maybe I'm too much linked to my roots than others or maybe this was a request of the musicians. But I'm not here to speack about the food, so anyway, I'll go for the Trio.
In the backstage they were very kind with me and I had some time to speack with them about music and photography.

Tasty concert between some intimate friends in the Auditorium of the Casa della Musica of Trieste. Carl led the entire concert commenting on their songs as if he was spending a quiet evening with friends. He was occasionally supported by the jokes and the gags of the big Walfredo Reyes and by the rhytmic machine Dave Marotta. During the evening every musician had the opportunity to demonstrate its total musical abilities, which range in all directions. At the end of the concert the group went with a funny encore with Walfredo at the voice and percussions, while Carl and Dave were supporting him with their personal instruments; really a cool encore for the enjoyed audience!

Here some of the pictures I did, more on my MySpace page.

A journey with my father

After months of inactivity i'm going to start again with a post about a beautiful journey with my father, and my bike, through Italy, Austria, and Slovenia. We decided to go to visit the lovely city of Villach (Austria) riding the Italian motorway. After a little walk in the old town we tasted the great food of a restaurant just out the city. As you see we eat a big portion of pork's ribs, with french potatoes and beer. After that we decided to turn back to Italy passing through the northern Slovenian region. We went through two mountain passes, the Wurzenpass and the Vrsic (1611). The first is a lovely road between Austria and Slovenia, while the second one is a great pass in the Julian Alps of Slovenia. The pass is the highest in Slovenia, rising from Kranjska Gora in a series of 48 hairpin bends before descending into the Soca valley. During the way to the pass we broke for a while cause the passage of a caw walking in the middle of the road. Just some minutes for a picture and the nice weather changed into rain. This wet road is not such a good thing a biker needs, and we did it riding wery slowly. After the Vrsic pass we went along the Soca river reaching Gorizia and after that, Trieste.

Birthdate

Last weekend we were celebrating the birthdate of my father in law and his relatives. As usual he cooked for us one of my preferred dishes, and you can see in the pictures how it was big! :)
The old man is my girl's grandfather, 85 years old. During the second world war he was serving in the Folgore Parachute Brigade, he battled for five years in the African campaign, after that he was taken prisoner for two years in India by the English forces.
