The Cat on the Beach!

La scorsa estate eravamo in vacanza in Croazia quando arrivò una bellissima gatta nera e bianca, che si distese tra noi sui nostri asciugamani. Questa è la prima volta che vedo un gatto così vicino al mare, che cammina sugli scoglio e che sembra veramente a suo agio con tutti, persone e turisti. La gatta vive in una casetta poco lontano, a ridosso della riva del mare. Quel giorno lei arrivò da noi per starsene distesa sui nostri asciugamani tutto il pomeriggio..

Last summer we were on holiday on a beach in Croatia when a beautiful black and white cat (another lady) arrived to stay there with us. This was the first time I saw a cat near the seaside, looking very confortable with tourists and people. She lives into a pretty house near the seashore. That day she went on our beach towels to stay all the afternoon..

The Gray Cat

Una bellissima gatta grigia che era interessata a me e alla mia Canon. Durante una camminata a Lipica lei stava sonnecchiando sul tetto della mia macchina quando mi vide e scese correndomi incontro per delle coccole.. o era più interessata ad avere del cibo?? OPS!!

A beautiful cool gray cat who was interested in me and my camera! During a walk on the farm of Lipica, she (yes, the cat is a lady) was standing on the top of my car and when she saw me she went down just to run straight to me for have some cuddles.. or was she more interested in food?? OPS!!

The White Lipizzaner Horses

Vicino a Trieste appena oltre il confine tra Italia e Slovenia ci sono le scuderie dei cavalli Lipizzani, istituite nel lontano 1580 durante l'impero austro-ungarico. Questi cavalli sono utilizzati, tra l'altro, per un bellissimo spettacolo nel quale danzano a ritmo di valtzer. Nel centro di Lipica si possono trovare alberghi, casinò, una piscina, un campo di golf, e il centro benessere, ristoranti dove gustare ottimi piatti delle nostre zone. Nel set che ho fotografato si possono vedere i cavalli che ho fotografato il 10 di gennaio, in una mattina nebbiosa. Solo camminando lungo i viali delle scuderie potete vederli pascolare, vicino a voi, sui verdi prati.

Near the city of Trieste, just out of the borderline between Italy and Slovenia there is the beautiful Lipica Stud Farm, formed in the late 1580 during the austro-hungarian empire. These horses are used for a spectacular waltz, where you can see them dancing! In the center you can find hotels, a swimmingpool, a casino, a ground for playing golf, plus places where eat the food of our zone.. In the set I photographed you see the pictures I did in the 10th day of January, during a foggy morning. You just walk along the big park and see them browsing, near of you, in the green meadows near you.

Mantis Religiosa

Andando per i boschi a fotografare delle ragnatele e dei ragni ho visto una Mantide Religiosa. Era perfettamente camuffata con i colori delle piante e dei cespugli la attorno. Le mantidi prendono il nome dalla loro posizione raccolta delle zampe anteriori messe, appunto, come se stessero pregando. La mantide è venerata nei paesi dell'Africa. La femmina è nota per il fatto di uccidere il partner durante l'atto sessuale, partendo dalla sua testa, mentre i genitali sono ancora in movimento per la riproduzione.

Going on the bush for keep some shots about webs and spiders, I saw a light brown Mantis. It was perfectly camouflaged with the colours of the plants and bushes all around. Praying mantises get their name from the way they sit up on their middle and rear legs with their front legs folded in front of them, as though they were praying. The Mantis is a venerated insect in the African countries. The female is famous for eating the male partner during the sexual intercourse, starting from its head, while the genitals are still moving for the reproduction of the species.

Stone Walls

A Lussino (e in molti posti in Croazia) ci sono molti muri di pietra costruiti per tracciare le proprietà coltivate e per proteggere le coltivazioni dal forte vento di bora dal nord est. Tutte le isole sono tracciate da questi muretti a secco. Si può vedere la micro vita degli insetti tra le pietre, formiche che si costruiscono il nido pe l'inverno, api, lucertole, ragni.. Tutte queste creature sono piccolissime, non come quelle di certi paesi, ma è comunque interessante osservarle. Ero in vacanza senza l'obiettivo macro, ma credo che il 18-55 ha fatto comunque un buon lavoro.

In Mali Losinj (and in most places in Croatia) there are lot of stonewalls built for tracing out the boundaries of properties and to protect plants from the strong wind from the north east. All the isles are traced by these stonewalls. You can see the micro life between the stones, ants in the way of built a nest for the winter time, grasshoppers, bees, lizards, spiders.. All these little creatures are not big like the ones you can find in other countries, but watch them is interesting too. I was on holiday without my micro lenses, but I think my lenses 18-55 did however a good job.

Lei mi vide e pensò che avevo del cibo per lei.. attraversò il prato e venne vicino per annusare la macchina fotografica per vedere che cibo era.. Appena capì che non era cibo si voltò un po' stizzita e ritornò alla sua amata erba!

She saw me and thought I was giving her some food.. she walked through the green close to me and she started to sniffs to my camera just to see what kind of food it was.. After she understood it was not food for her, she retourned back to her loved grass!

The Shy Dog

Sabato, girando per la Slovenia per trovare un posto carino dove mangiare qualcosa, abbiamo trovato un posto con una vecchia casa in pietra vicino a una chiesa del 1800. Un giovane e schivo cagnolino è venuto a trovarci durante il picnic aspettando qualcosa da mangiare. Dopo che gli diedi dei pezzi di pane e prosciutto, decise di salutarmi, ma è evidente che era spaventato dalla mia macchina fotografica.. povero piccolo.

Saturday we were tripping around the Slovenian land just to find a pretty place where brake the car and sit down to eat our food. We found a place with an old stone house near a 1800 church. A young shy dog went to meet us during the picnic and waiting for someting to eat. After I gave him pieces of bread and ham, he decided to greet me, but he was scared by my camera (you see it in the first two photographs).. poor little boy.

The Big Jellyfish

Stavo cammninando lungo la riva del mare quando ho visto una grossa medusa, anche se non la più grossa che ho visto. L'ultima volta che ne vidi una come questa ero un ragazzino.. Poco dopo ne ho vista un'altra a venti metri dalla prima, e un sacco di piccole.. Nessuna di queste grandi meduse è velenosa, ma le piccole sono urticanti.. quando ero un bambino una di esse mi ha lasciato sul braccio il segno dei suoi tentacoli, per 8 anni!

I was walking on the seaside when I saw a jellyfish, it was very big, not the biggest I saw, but a very big one. The last time I saw a jelly like that I was a child.. After that I saw another one just 20 meters away and a lot of little ones.. No one of these big jellys are poisonus, but the little ones are urticant.. when I was a child one of them leaved on my arm the sign of his tenacles, for 8 years!
